Considerable savings of expenses are brought about by a collaboration of forces. It is not necessary for each and every regional water authority to build up specific financial expertise.

Moreover, the joint venture of the Association and the regional water authorities leads to lower costs for necessary investments. Responsible management with an eye to the environment and the population forms an integral part of the general policy.

In 2006 the NWB Fund was set up to finance regional programmes aimed at international cooperation. The revenues of this fund enable the individual regional water authority to use its expertise for the realisation of water management projects abroad.
