Much of the legislation and the policies which influence the core functions are made by the EU. It is of the utmost importance that European decisions do not entail commitments for the regional water authorities which they cannot fulfil.

In this respect an effective promotion of interests is crucial. The Brussels Bureau was set up to represent both the Association of Regional Water Authorities and Vewin at relevant organisations of the EU. In addition, the Association is a member of 3 European umbrella organisations: EUREAU, EUWMA and EWA.

As a representative of these 3 organisations the Association participates in European policy making meetings. Furthermore the Association supports international projects set up by regional authorities.
